Amwell Street

Claridge Architects were commissioned by Grainger PLC to refurbish and extend this existing 1960s residential block in the London Borough of Islington to provide fourteen high quality apartments.

The proposal includes the full refurbishment of the building with a small infill extension and extensive upgrade of the existing fabric. Internally, a carefully selected palette of contemporary finishes was provided and the layouts rationalised to make maximum use of the available space and create high quality living spaces. Externally, alterations included the introduction of bronze cladding and the repointing of all brickwork. New fenestration was provided throughout and a glazed entrance canopy added at the front of the building.

The project has proved is highly successful, maximising residential values and architecturally enriching the surrounding conservation area through well considered design and detailing.
