Philpot Lane

Located in the heart of the City of London opposite the ‘Walkie Talkie’, Claridge Architects successfully refurbished and connected two existing buildings to create a 36 room aparthotel with retail space at ground level.

The project was both technically complex and ambitious, linking two buildings of very different eras and characters: No. 2 Philpot Lane, a Grade II listed building constructed in the early eighteenth century, and No. 5 Philpot Lane, a 1970s office building.

The challenge of connecting these two buildings within a tight urban site presented a number of complicated physical and engineering constraints. In addition to these, the Grade II listed building required a combination of sensitive alteration, refurbishment and conservation to provide accommodation that meets current standards with a range of contemporary facilities.

The project was completed in 2014.
