Marcus Claridge

Director - Architect

ARB, RIBA

Marcus Claridge founded award-winning Claridge Architects in 2004. His experience spans more than 20 years across multiple sectors and includes in-depth knowledge of planning policies and an understanding of complex sites, enabling him to lead and deliver numerous international projects.

Marcus is involved in every project from early concept design, coupling traditional architectural tools of sketching and model making with new technologies to guide the team through each phase to completion. He fosters an open studio-culture to encourage discussion and debate during the design process. He advocates autonomy amongst team members to nurture each individual’s professional development.

Marcus is passionate about close collaboration with clients to better understand their objectives and vision and to establish a comprehensive brief. He has been a member of the RIBA Small Practice Committee, Wandsworth Design Panel and acted as an external assessor at Cardiff University from 2015 to 2017. He also sat on the RIBA Awards judging committee in 2009 and was involved in Architect in the House annually from 2006 to 2009.

Claridge’s underlying philosophy is ‘Modern Minimalism’ – a design-led approach that celebrates architectural simplicity and functional elegance. The practice has been recognised with a number of awards including The Sunday Times British Homes Awards, 2017; three Wandsworth Design Award wins between 2009 and 2013 including awards for Parkgate House, SW11, and Thomas’s School (2011). Claridge Architects have also won the Best City Spa award for BLOWW and has been RIBA and AJ shortlisted for AJ Masterplan of the Year (2018) and the RIBA School London Award for Thomas’s Reception Block (2009), London. The practice was longlisted for the Young Architect of the Year Award three times from 2008 to 2010.
