CAL Newsletter - Edition 14

As we enter the fourth and final quarter of 2023, we are thrilled to showcase CAL's portfolio of both new and approved projects, highlighting the diversity in our project portfolio!  We are proud to emphasise our continued commitment to the residential market across the UK as projects on site from central London and out to Birmingham continue to develop ready to be completed next year. We are thrilled to have two new additions join our CAL team, Erika and Arnav who have both recently completed their part I degree. Happy holidays, we hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

New Starters

We are thrilled to announce CAL has two new Part I architectural assistants recently start in the team! Arnav and Erika have both got stuck straight into work with energy and ferocity. It is great to have their energy onboard. Arnav recently completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the University of Bath, and is particularly interested in environmental and regenerative design. Erika has also just graduated from the University of Nottingham BArch. She is interested in community-focused, inclusive architecture, exploring how thorough design principles can develop a sense of connection between inhabitants, space and surrounding environment.

Fortune House

Planning Approved

We are delighted to announce a new residential-led scheme in the London Borough of Barnet, which obtained unanimous resolution to grant at the planning committee meeting this December. This dynamic, residential-led, mixed-use proposal comprises of 41 apartments, street-level commercial units, a landscaped courtyard, and a rooftop terrace.

Facing the urban challenges of the site, our design ensures a reduction in height compared to the neighbouring Intec House, creating a smooth transition in density from north to south. The architecture complements the adjacent development, employing similar design language and materials, but maintains a subordinate scale. This results in a stepped massing that harmonizes with and enhances the overall character of the area.

This project is a valuable addition to our expanding portfolio of urban developments in North London, following our recent successful planning approval for Intec House earlier this year. As part of our contribution to the Barnet masterplan, we are proud to introduce 133 high-quality, well-designed homes for the residents of Barnet across the two sites.

Birmingham

New Appointment

We have had three new exciting appointments in Birmingham underway. The sites are dotted around from the Gun Quarter, to Digbeth to East Birmingham. These sites have a rich history and background, some with heritage listed buildings, embodying the industrial successes of Birmingham from 1900s onwards. Heritage is very key to the site and us ethically as a practice, we believe that these buildings can be preserved for future generations whilst re-energizing the area into the emerging urban skyline, in line with Birmingham’s Big City 20 year masterplan.
