Willow Vale

Client: City Innovations

Location: Shepherds Bush, London

Status: Planning Approved – 2017

Residential new build scheme consisting of 4 units in a constrained backland site.

Located on a backland site to the eastern side of Willow Vale in Shepherds Bush, this project is predominantly context driven consisting of a two storey residential development comprising on 4 units. Two 2 bed single storey courtyard houses and two 3 bed duplex family units.

The proposed massing aims to be subordinate to the neighbouring terraces but similar in scale to their rear extensions that border the site to the east. At the eastern and western boundaries of the site, the two single storey courtyard houses have been proposed that aim to utilise the length of the site from north to south. This allows the height to be kept to that of the existing boundary wall, lowering visual impact on surrounding properties. Between these two single storey courtyard houses are the two duplex family units that are shorter in length and benefit from south facing gardens.

The proposed facade consists of high quality brickwork with concrete detail in conjunction with bespoke hardwood timber casement windows. The materiality of the proposed scheme give a crafted aesthetic and can be seen as a contemporary translation of traditional mews houses.
